Oussama Diab (Palestine)

Oussama Diab uses a conceptual methodology in his work that explores the stylistic variants of painting as a means of referencng and articulating matters of social and political concern. The artist uses a different painting style for each series of work so as to emphasize the impermanent nature of artistic language. Diab uses physical rather than digital media as a means of examing more directly everyday life. His work examines the contradictions of political conflict and globalization through symbolic references to popular culture, its narratives and iconography.

Born in 1977 in Damascus, Palestinian artist Oussama Diab lives and works in Beirut. He has quickly gained rank within the Middle Eastern art scene. A graduate of the Faculty of Fine Arts, Damascus in 2002, he has been featured in solo and group exhibitions throughout the region and has been honored for his work with several awards from the Shabab Young Artists exhibition in Syria. Solo shows include Ayyam Gallery DIFC, Dubai (2012); Ayyam Gallery Beirut (2010-11); Ayyam Gallery Dubai (2010); Ayyam Gallery Damascus (2009).
